FRIDAY NIGHT WITH JUSTIN WHYTE

LIVE FROM 9PM EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT

Justin Whyte returns to Laika after a couple of trips to Egypt, a stint at Sotano, Hilton Southwarf, writing and producing in the Northern Rivers NSW near Byron and a new solo album due out at the end of the year. This multi-instrumentalist musical chameleon is predictably unpredictable. Think New York jazz piano bar meets intimate European club/cosy lounge room that then transforms into a pumping New York Night/House club depending on the night, stopping off in Vegas, Cuba and New Orleans along the way. The energy of the room at its peak is buzzing electric. With the smoky velvet voice, mad piano skills and phrasing that is impossible to pin down. Drawing from his extensive experience in Jazz, Blues, House, Latin Jazz, Salsa, Funk, ambient and time honoured classics, Justin very much enjoys doing the smoky jazz thing or whipping his audiences into a frenzy with a classic disco thumper.  Either way he loves to set different moods and you may feel like you’re in another place in another time…Don’t miss this amazing artist at Laika Bar

Live N Local - LITTLE WISE

What’s in a name? A lot, apparently. Whether by choice or design, Sophie Klein embodies the Greek and Yiddish origins of her name (Klein= “little” [Yiddish], Sophie = “wise” [Greek]). This Melbourne-based songstress is small in stature, but can tell a towering story with the wisdom of an old soul. Her voice is feminine and perfectly matched to her songs. She carves out beautiful narratives of love, loss and family in the vein of Jackson Browne and Lucinda Williams. She has performed around Australia in pubs, halls, living rooms, churches and laundromats. Her debut album ‘Silver Birch’ is out November 2016

Think New York jazz piano bar meets intimate European club/cosy lounge room that then transforms into a pumping New York Night/House club depending on the night, stopping off in Vegas, Cuba and New Orleans along the way. Callee

Callee's voice is captivating and melodically intricate and her songs spin a web of sensitivity and vigour with undertones of fragility and reflection – a beautiful combination of sweet and dark. Originally from Lennox Head, NSW; Callee has grown up in the company of musicians, music lovers, surfers, artists, dancers, songwriters, all her life, and her perspective talks of growth and time. Colour and love. Heartache and courage. Her tone is reminiscent of Jewel or Missy Higgins, her lyrics transport you to the time of Joni Mitchell, and the tempos and arrangements of her songs pay homage to the anthems of U2, Adele and Cold Play. Callee is definitely a Laika Bar favourite and we always look forward to her performances!
